landscaping design process

Doing landscaping right the first time is crucial and it’s our job to give you something practical, cost efficient and aesthetically pleasing.

Our design process begins with some qualifying questions to see if your project is a good fit for us. Next we set up an on-site consultation, a brief meeting where we can get more information or measurements.  From there we will decide whether a formal landscape design is necessary.  A scaled drawing is not always needed and a basic sketch or verbal communication can get the ideas across, but some people have an easier time visualizing everything if we can lay it all out on paper.

After an initial site visit, we will either provide you a quote with a written description or a proposal for a landscape design which will include an estimate on the total project budget, as well as our design fee.

Design work can cost from $500-3000, depending on how complex the landscape is. The total design process from our initial consultation will take 2-4 weeks. Once all revisions are made and the design is complete, we will be able to present you with your completed drawing, material and plant lists as well as provide you with an exact quote. At this stage you are clearly free to use the plan to gather quotes from other landscape contractors.

With decades of landscaping experience, you can be sure our team will come up with a plan that adds a perfect balance of beauty as well functionality that will utilize the full potential of your outdoor space. We look forward to working with you.

There are several low maintenance landscape designs which will look great without the stress and upkeep for those who lead a busy lifestyle and can't spend a lot of time in the garden.  English gardens look amazing but usually require more upkeep, great if you enjoy spending your weekends out in your backyard.  Japanese gardens are another popular option which can be beautiful and offer you a tranquil place to relax in peace.  Currently a lower maintenance clean rock/gravel look has been a very popular request in Nanaimo as well as artificial turf.

Payment, Scheduling and Deposits

We know finding a reliable landscaping company in Nanaimo can be difficult, especially when the weather starts to get nice.  We try to keep our schedule booked months in advance and have to occasionally turn away projects if our schedule doesn't fit with the potential clients.  For this reason, we have a $5000 project minimum require a 10% non-refundable deposit to be placed on the schedule.  This is to cover missed opportunity cost if we have a last minute cancellation leaving our crews with an empty spot in the schedule. We also require a 50% deposit upon the start of your landscaping job.  For larger projects of $30,000 or more, progress payments of 25% can be arranged. All payments are due on day of project completion.

Landscaping projects are added to the schedule in the order of when the deposit is received. We normally would not promise exact start dates. We rely on weather, employees and suppliers to complete our job in a timely manner but sometimes not everything goes exactly to plan. We try to give an accurate window of 2-4 weeks for start dates.
